As a leader who has spent my career driving cross-sector innovation and economic growth, I know how critical it is to manage budgets transparently and exercise true fiscal responsibility. Sid Atkin shares this commitment, but more importantly, he lives it out through personal dedication.

Having watched him give countless personal hours as President of the Choir Boosters and as a hands-on parent volunteer for our theatre program, I have seen firsthand his unwavering devotion to our students and parents alike. He understands that there is more than one path to success for our students, whether through traditional academics, technical trades, or the vibrant STEAM and arts programs that inspire creative problem-solving.

I have worked with Sid as a volunteer/leader at BHS for about eight years. I have found him to be smart, thoughtful, hard-working, and dedicated to ALL BAS students. As a parent and local business owner, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Sid as a choir booster. Through his dedicated work with our school programs, Sid has proven his deep commitment to our students and community. I first met Sid over 5 years ago while we were parent volunteers for the Brighton High School Musical. Sid was passionate about the success of the BAS music and performing arts programs and volunteered countless hours to each. I later learned from friends, that as their business associate, he was a tireless worker and a professional they could depend on. I believe Sid will bring those same qualities to the Brighton Board of Education. He has my full support.

I have had the privilege of knowing Sid for the past 12 years, first meeting him when our sons were involved in Boy Scouts, where he served as our Cub Scout Leader. From the beginning, Sid demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, and a genuine commitment to mentoring young people. Over the years, I have watched him remain deeply involved in his children’s educational and extracurricular experiences, supporting athletics, music, and theater programs while always advocating for students’ growth and success. As President of the Brighton Choir Boosters, Sid has been a positive influence not only on his own children but also on my son and daughter and countless other students. His consistent attendance and engagement at school board meetings over several years reflect his dedication to public education and his desire to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to succeed. Sid is passionate about serving students, families, and the community, and I am confident he would bring thoughtful leadership, strong advocacy, and a student-centered perspective to the Brighton Area School Board.

I have known Sid Atkin for 18 years, and I am proud to endorse him for the Brighton School Board.I first came to know Sid as my immediate supervisor in the hotel and hospitality industry, and working under his leadership was one of the best experiences of my career. He was an engaged, hands-on manager who genuinely cared about the people on his team. He did not just care about results; he cared about the people producing them, and he built an environment where everyone felt valued and supported.

Since then, I have watched Sid’s passion for Brighton’s schools continue to grow. He shows up. I’ve had the amazing privilege of knowing Sid over the past five years. Our shared passion for the Brighton Musical Theater program allowed us to first connect. Both of his kids became involved in our program, and since Sid and his wife Katherine are also hooked on musical theater, they both became key parent volunteers and integral community partners in our endeavors to produce the finest award-winning musical theater program in the State of Michigan.

Over the years, Sid (and Katherine) have invested, literally, hundreds of hours volunteering and giving back to our students and community. Sid has also been heavily involved in all areas of the Arts at Brighton Area Schools, including investing significant time in the Choir, Band, and Orchestra programs. Through his involvement, he’s gained a broader passion for Brighton Area Schools at large and has become a passionate advocate for making our district a better place for our students, parents, the community, and most importantly, our teachers.

Sid knows intimately the needs of Brighton Schools and has fantastic ideas on how to build and improve upon the strong foundation we have as a district, and I could not think of a better person to have on our school board than Sid Atkin.

I first met Sid as a fellow Hilton Elementary parent and have gotten to know him better throughout the years through our children’s shared participation in Cub Scouts, choir, other extracurriculars, and Brighton Musical Theater. Sid is truly one of the biggest reasons why we have decided to pursue Brighton Schools for our daughter. He has done such a wonderful job promoting all of the amazing opportunities that Brighton Schools have to offer, and he has always been my go-to when it comes to questions about the area and the schools.

I believe it is so important to have the school board be well represented with people from all walks of life, and be able to support all areas of the schools (education, athletics, theatre, etc.!), and Sid will absolutely be able to do that.
